WENZHOU, CHINA — Ms. Lin was dining with her mother, her younger sister, and her 7 month old baby at a local hotpot restaurant in Wenzhou, China, when their server poured a pot of boiling soup over her head.
He then yanked her to the floor and began kicking and punching her.
The reason the 17 year old server gave for attacking Ms. Lin? She’d asked him to add soup to the pot one too many times. According to Ms. Lin’s sister, they’d asked for soup twice, the first time the server had ignored them, and the second time he told Ms. Lin to shut up and drink the soup that was already in the pot.
Ms. Lin then angrily demanded to see the manager and made a post on China’s social media Weibo about the crappy service.
Ten minutes after the post was made their server reappears and poured boiling soup over Ms. Lin.
Ms. Lin was rushed to hospital where doctors informed her she had second to third degree burns on 42% of her body. Most of the burns were to her face, neck, and back and have blistered.
The restaurant has covered all of Ms. Lin’s medical fees, but the family says they are still suing the restaurant and the teenaged server. Allegedly, when the server was arrested he was still smiling.
